The Pilgeram's Family Ranch in Plains celebrated its 100th anniversary on July 7. Keith and Carol Pilgeram hosted a family reunion to celebrate and share fond memories. Thompson Falls will be on the silver screen after a film crew spent last week shooting scenes for an independent film. The crew, from Los Angeles, traveled to Montana to shoot a film called Two Yellow Lines. The crew started in Helena, moved over to Wyoming for a couple days and then came back across Montana, ending up in Thompson Falls on June 27. Eagle Scouts Cycling Across America made a pit stop at the Riverfront Motel in Thompson Falls after a day long, 80-mile trip from Sandpoint, Idaho. The bikers started in Seattle and will continue to New York City, from there they will travel south down to Washington D.C. The third annual Cowgirls Kickin’ Cancer (CKC) omoksee event took place in Noxon, sponsored by Sanders County Rocky Ridge Saddle Club. The goal of the event was to educate the community and get the message across that “early detection is your greatest protection.” All family-oriented vendors were welcome to set up at the event for the small fee of donating one door prize for the games or raffle. Students from the third through fifth grades showed off their skills at a four-day basketball camp that was held in the high school gym. High school basketball coaches Jake Mickelson and Doree Thilmony coached the players on fundamentals and sharpening their skills with dribbling and shooting drills. A truck that was hauling cattle overturned pulling off of Highway 200 W just outside of Trout Creek, June 6th. The driver of the truck was in good condition but three of the cows in the load were killed. Plains alumni took the field to compete in the first annual flag football game against the current Plains High School players. The game was a 5-on-5 passing game with two, twenty-minute halves. There was a small turnout for alumni at the game with some high school players lending their skills to help them out occasionally. The Thompson Falls Public Library began their Summer Reading Program on June 2. The program is each Saturday at 11 a.m. until the end of July at the library. There will be a presentation by the weekly guest followed by a kid’s craft. There will also be opportunities to win prizes at the end of the program based on individual reading goals. Members from the Free Cycles bike shop in Missoula met with children in Hot Springs to teach bike safety and the mechanics of what it takes to build and maintain your own bike. Members of the Clark Fork Valley Elks Lodge held a free bowling day for children and teens ages 7-18 on April 21. This is the second year that the Elks Lodge has hosted bowling for the youth of the community. In previous years, only golf instruction was offered.
