The resignation of the fair manager and the administrative assistant last week added another burden on the Sanders County Fair Commission, which is now down to three members – two of which are new. Last Wednesday's monthly board meeting was nearly over when fair manager Chris McGuigan sprung the news that he was resigning, effective immediately. "I will no longer be with the fair when we finish the meeting tonight," said McGuigan, who has been the manager for the last two years and a member of t...
AN ONLINE PETITION proposes to sell Montana to Canada for $1 trillion to eliminate the national debt. One person took the cause one step further, placing a small "For Sale" sign below the Welcome to Montana sign at the Montana-Idaho border west of Heron. Travelers coming from Idaho who saw the sign got a good giggle. Polly Raymond captured photos of the prank. "Just want to clarify I was not the clever person who placed the sign," Raymond said....
Sanders County is adding efficiencies to help customers and the state. The county treasurer’s office is one of the first counties in the state to get new scanning technology for vehicle titles. County Treasurer Nichol Scribner said the scanning capabilities will significantly cut the time down that residents have to wait to receive a vehicle title. The title documentation is now scanned daily at the treasurer’s office and uploaded to the state Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). The state agency then reviews the information and issues the new tit...

The goal is 25,000. “We have too much debt and Montana is useless. Just tell them it has beavers or something,” Hammond wrote. Many Montanans commenting at Change.org supported the petition. The state Legislature is gett...

When did we as a nation lose our sense of humor? It seems that we hear every day that someone has been offended by words, actions or images and this information somehow makes the news. Years ago we had movies like Blazing Saddles and television shows like All In The Family that allowed (and even encouraged) us all to laugh at ourselves and at/with one another. I think the loss of that sort of humor is tragic. An example; I’ve been working a job out of town with some friends. The other day one o...
