Frields was one of 10 players selected from nine Western B division teams. Laws played for the Western C division team, which was chosen from 30 teams. Laws also played in the Mission Valley...
Weather always seems to play a role in the start of the high school golf season each spring. This year is no exception. The Thompson Falls Blue Hawks were set to start their season Saturday at the Hamilton Golf Club, but weather delayed the tournament. Instead, the Blue Hawks will begin play Tuesday, April 3, at Hamilton. Coaches Mike Bates and Gary Thompson said it's always something at the start of the golf season in western Montana, whether it be rain and flooding or snow still on many of the...

Anglers are reeling in the lake trout on Flathead Lake during the 2018 Spring Mack Days Fishing Event. After two weekends of competitions, 9,528 lake trout have been entered in the competitions. That is about a thousand less than the same time last year. The 2017 spring total after the same number of days was at 10,577. Saturday was a blustery spring day for the anglers, with cold wind, rain, snow, rough water, and fish that quit biting. The high-dollar fish (one tagged for $10,000, three at $5,000 and five at $1,000) have not yet been caught,...
For the Kootenai Forest Stakeholders Coalition (KFSC), it’s been a long, winding, and sometimes bumpy road. There are still curves ahead, but the path is getting wider and smoother, paved by support from diverse and sometimes surprising sources. In the past few months, the Coalition has gained the support of county commissions in both Lincoln and Sanders County, Montana, in which the majority of the Kootenai National Forest (KNF) lies. The Lincoln County Commission signed a Memorandum of Agreement with KFSC in late November of 2017, and the S...
Within a few seconds of meeting Karen Dwyer, it is easy to determine that she is full of life and certainly embraces adventure. Who would expect anything else from a gal who was born and raised in Montana? The small town of Opportunity, Montana was blessed the day Dwyer was born. She joined a family of five; father, mother, two older brothers and an older sister. She claims being the youngest is "a much better position to be in...most of the time anyway." Dwyer's father was a chemist, proudly...
