  • Trotters drop Breakers

    John Hamilton|Apr 18, 2019

PLAINS – For being an early-season game, this one had a post-season feel to it. The Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers visited Plains Monday for a key doubleheader with the Plains-Hot Springs Trotters and the first game turned into a classic pitching duel between Breaker Kayla Hickethier and Trotter Kassidy Kinzie, both returning All-State B-C players from a year ago. Using a pair of runs scratched out in the bottom of the third inning, the Trotters then stood firm behind the stellar pitching of K...

  • Hawks enjoy the Tripp

    John Hamilton|Apr 18, 2019

It's about time that the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks got with it with their track and field teams. Hitting the track and field en masse for only the second time this season, the Hawks and Lady Hawks competed in the Dave Tripp Memorial in Polson last Friday and left Trenna Ferris as one happy coach after all was said and done. "The kids did very well," Ferris said. "The boys team placed fifth overall with 70 points and the girls took fourth with 72. We had a lot of strong performances from a lot...

  • Prep golfers weather the storm

    John Hamilton|Apr 18, 2019

The weather wasn't perfect for golf, but Plains hosted its annual high school tournament at Wild Horse Golf Course west of Plains Saturday. Under overcast skies with a threat of rain the entire day, players from eight western Montana teams vied for honors in the latest edition of the Plains Invitational. Almost shooting scratch golf, Bucky Crippen fired a 74 and teammate Reed Noyd a 78 to lead the Loyola Rams to the boys title. With the girls, Loyola's Katie Fagg shot 79 to win and Breaker...

  • Heat host Tripp meet

    John Hamilton|Apr 18, 2019

Dave Tripp would have been proud of what his name has wrought. The Hot Springs Savage Heat track and field team hosted 14 western Montana schools in the latest edition of the Dave Tripp Memorial in Polson Friday. A 1970 graduate of Hot Springs who reportedly loved the sport of track and field, Tripp was memorialized forevermore when his name was attached to Hot Springs' annual invitational years ago, and he would have undoubtedly been proud of all the effort and action his name helped to...

  • Coach loves seeing athletes grow

    John Hamilton|Apr 18, 2019

Denise Montgomery likes planting the seed and watching it grow. The sure-fire hall of fame coach (who will most certainly be bequeathed with that honor when she finally does hang up her whistle once and for all), who guided the Trotters to an unprecedented string of state team titles in Class B and Class C track and field meets not all that long ago, loves to see her kids grow up right before her eyes. Her unique teaching/coaching career (she is a long-time elementary teacher in the Plains school system) has given Montgomery the opportunity to...

  • Hawks fall to Eureka, MAC

    John Hamilton|Apr 18, 2019

It is a simple matter of confidence. The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks dropped a pair of doubleheaders last week, falling 12-2 and 21-3 to Eureka in Eureka Saturday, and losing 14-3 and 12-0 to Mission-Arlee-Charlo in Mission Monday. Looking to build up some confidence, coach Jared Koskela and his Hawks will finally play at home Thursday, hosting Deer Lodge for a doubleheader. It is only two weeks into the season and the Lady Hawks have already seen some of the best teams in the Western B-C division, and have taken their lumps from those...

There are 835 pinwheels placed in the area, one for each Sanders County child who was affected by domestic or sexual abuse. The pinwheels represent the children who have been helped by SCCFF since...
