MISSOULA – Kyle Lawson never quits competing; the Savage Heat standout is always ready for another game or contest of athletic skill. One of the more accomplished athletes in western Montana this past school year (after earning All-Conference and All-State honors in football last fall, and All-District 14C recognition in basketball), Lawson topped off an outstanding track and field campaign for Hot Springs at the State C meet in Missoula last week by placing in both hurdles races. Scoring all si...
One more time for all the old times… Accompanied by coach Jared Koskela, five members of the 2020 Thompson Falls Blue Hawk football team, which advanced all the way to the State 8-Man semifinals before falling in Scobey last fall, will play in the annual Bob Cleverly 8-Man All-Star game in Butte at 7 p.m. Saturday under the lights on Montana Tech’s Bob Green Field. Freshly graduated from TFHS just this past week, Kade Pardee, Roman Sparks, Lucas Andersen, Cody Burk and Will McPherson were set to travel to Butte earlier this week for a few day...
Tina and Jeanne would not be denied and now are the league leaders. Tina Wheeler shot the low individual gross of 48 and Jeanne Holleran the low individual net of 33 as those two teamed up to post the low team net of 67 to move into first place in Women’s League standings at River’s Bend last Thursday. Holleran and Wheeler were also the only league players to connect on chip-in shots last week, with Jeanne getting one on No. 5 and Tina getting hers on No. 6. The previous league leaders, Jan Thompson and Connie Brown shot the low team gross of 1...
The usual suspects did the low scoring at River’s Bend last Wednesday. With team Highlead (Chadd Laws, Jesse Mosher, John Mosher and Steve Fairbank) shooting the low team net of 147 to remain atop Wednesday Night Men’s League standings, Hagedorn Land Surveying golfers Ryan Ostwald, Paul Flemmer, Kelly Kovarik and Bernie Groshong shot the low team gross round of 168 to remain in second place. Ostwald was typically hard on River’s Bend, pushing through with a round of 37 for low individual gross honors, while Kovarik factored in his handi...
Montana’s Best Builders are Tuesday’s best golfers, at least for one week anyway. The previous league leaders, Custom Ventrues (Scott Pardee, Ty Pardee, Doug Fisher and Russ Yeager) stayed in the game with the low team net of 15...
Sanders County students were honored last week for being among the best in the state for the SkillsUSA competition. Mary Heller, director of SkillsUSA in Montana, traveled to Thompson Falls and Plains last week to present awards to students. She noted that the 2020 competition was canceled due to the pandemic, and this year the competition looked a little different. Students competed in the shops at their schools, monitored by their advisors. In Thompson Falls, junior Tyler Battles won silver fo...
The River Roadhouse, located along Highway 200 between Thompson Falls and Trout Creek, officially opened Memorial Day weekend. Owner Machelle Brossman opened last weekend in time for the holiday. “This will be an opportunity to meet the owner and the staff,” Brossman said last week. The kick-off weekend also served as a first run for the restaurant. “It’s a brand new business, and we’re all new to each other and getting to know one another,” Brossman said. She is looking forward to meeting the community and hearing their feedback. During the...
