  • Whatcha Readin'?

    Sunday Dutro|Aug 10, 2023

Anytime we go anywhere my husband laughs at me and asks how many books I’m bringing. It doesn’t matter where we’re going, I always have a minimum of two physical books and one e-book with me. Always. The one time I forgot a book I ended up taking a much needed and very unexpected nap…but I’d rather be reading. People always talk about their summer vacations and all I want to know is if they read any good books. I may have a problem…. I read nine books in July, six of which were four stars or better, and (sadly?) none of which I’d consider a “su...

    Aug 10, 2023

by Sanders County Fair Board The 2023 PRCA Rodeo is coming to the Sanders County Fair August 31 – September 2 and it’s bound to bring some big name riders again this year. Top riders have been competing in our rodeo for years, which is such a treat for how inexpensive it is to attend. The world’s current top three saddle bronc riders – Montana-made Sage Newman, Zeke Thurston, and Stetson Wright – all rode at the Plains PRCA Rodeo in 2022. On bareback we had another Montana-grown favorite Caleb Bennett (currently #25 in the world standings...

  • Firefighting efforts continue

    Annie Wooden|Aug 10, 2023

Weekend precipitation provided a little relief to firefighting efforts in northwest Montana. The Niarada Fire as of Tuesday afternoon had burned more than 20,000 acres. Last weekend, Highway 28 was again closed due to fire activity but re-opened Sunday afternoon. Authorites removed the reduced speed limit on Highway 28 between Elmo and Lonepine, but urge drivers to use caution as firefighters and equipment are still working in the area. The Niarada Fire was listed at 25% contained on Tuesday....

  • Real Estate Trends

    Tina Daugherty|Aug 10, 2023

July was dry and unseasonably hot! The market was not quite as hot with pretty level inventory levels, growing days on market and inventory levels up over a year as far as months of supply absorption rate. Interest rates continue to rise, which is affecting the market as well. We have seen a lot of price reductions, but steady value on sold properties thus far. These next few months are always the busiest for closing sales typically in our local real estate market. So, they will tell the story soon. The huckleberries are the biggest, juiciest,...

  • River & Blues

    Annie Wooden|Aug 10, 2023

The annual Big Sky Blues Festival filled the west end with rhythmic sounds last weekend as the three-day festival brought hundreds of visitors to Pilgrim Creek Park in Noxon. Bands including Eric's Maine Connection (top right) entertained people from all over the northwest at the festival. Legends and new artists were together in Sanders County for the weekend. Layla Musselwhite (bottom) matched her soulful voice with the energetic musical talents of Jimmy Robinson. Both are from New Orleans....
