  • Young bear sparks wildfire

    John Hamilton|Aug 13, 2020

In the ironies of ironies, a small bear started a wildfire on Smokey Bear’s 76th birthday Sunday. That young bear, who obviously did not heed Smokey’s fire prevention message, climbed a power poll outside of Ravalli and was promptly electrocuted, which at the very least put an end to his fire-starting ways, although it unfortunately did cost him his young life. The barbequed bear’s body then fell to the ground and started a small grass fire. Fortunately, the CSKT Division of Fire, aided by rural firefighting forces, was there to quickly quell t...

  • Double H Dirt golfers bury the competition

    John Hamilton|Aug 13, 2020

So you want a fairway fight? A duel to be the first Tuesday men to River’s Bend’s clubhouse door as the season winds down? Sorry about that guys but it might just have to wait until next season now, after the Double H Dirt golfers dominated league play last week, building a 13-point lead heading into the dying throes of season play. Led by Scott Pardee, who brought home the bacon with the low individual gross of 41, Double H’s other brothers Ty Pardee, Kade Pardee and Tom Kirkland chimed in the register the low team gross of 166. Lakes...

  • Fall Mack Days announced

    Aug 13, 2020

The 2020 Fall Mack Days Fishing Event on Flathead Lake is just around the corner, and begins September 8th. The fall event, sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), will end on November 15. This year’s Fall Mack Days event has been extended two weeks longer than the regular Fall Event, due to the shortened spring event because of coronavirus concerns. The number of lake trout harvested was not as high as anticipated during the spring event. The Tribal Fisheries Program feels that it’s important to reach the annual est...

  • Ostwald makes Bend his private playpen

    John Hamilton|Aug 13, 2020

It was fun night at River’s Bend for Wednesday Night Men’s play last week, and no one had more fun than hot-shooting Ryan Ostwald, who has made the Bend his under-par playpen the past two weeks. Seven days after beating the Bend with a remarkable four-under par effort back on July 29, Ostwald notched a one-under round of 35 this past week. Included in Ostwald’s latest assault on par were the shot closest to the pin in 3 on No. 2, and the long drive of the night on No. 9. In other play of the day, Jesse Mosher carded the low net of 32, Ben M...

    John Hamilton|Aug 13, 2020

There will be a Huckleberry Run in 2020; only it will be run ala carte, at your own time and at your own pace, as long as it is run between anytime Friday, Aug. 14, and 9 p.m., Sunday Aug. 16. This year’s race, redesigned and organized by Clark Fork Valley Running Club (CFVRC) president Sarah Naegeli, with a little help from her running friends, will begin and end at the Trout Creek School. The new course layout, which is still 5K, is well-marked and easy to follow, Naegeli said. Naegeli said that while social distancing is being written r...
