The Noxon Red Devils played host to the Tri-Cities Titans in their first home football game of the season last Friday. The Blue Hawks kept the momentum going on their winning season last week with a 44-26 win on the road over St. Regis-Mullan. Though the Hawks were down 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, they were able to keep the Tigers from scoring in the second and third quarters while the Hawks put up 15 points in the second to lead 23-14 at the half and another seven unanswered seven points in the third to stretch the lead to 30-14. Quik Stop golfers Rusty Sharp, Bruce Haflich, Shawn Wilkinson and Scott Garr were the season’s best with 127 points, just one more than Big Sky Pantry. Coach Jim Lawson and his Savage Heat football team improved their record to 2-0 with a home win Friday against Big Sandy. Though the Savage Heat led the whole game and won 33-19, Lawson said it was a tough game. “It was closer than the score indicated,” Lawson stated. “They are a big physical football team with tough kids. After a hard-fought victory last Thursday by the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks, the Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers find their own hearts broken. The first set went to the Heart Breakers in a long, close 32-30 battle. The Lady Hawks came back to win three straight though, besting Loyola 25-13, 25-21 and 25-20. The Plains Trotters fell to the Mission Bulldogs in three sets in their first 7B conference volleyball mastch last week. The Trotters and coach Jesse Butcher traveled to Mission on Thursday, losing to the Bulldogs 25-14, 25-17 and 25-22. The Trotters then hosted Arlee on Saturday to round out their Labor Day weekend. Coach Jesse Jermyn has a small cross country team in Plains this year, but he says they are focusing on putting together individual plans and trying to get each of his team members to their best. It’s encouraging to hear that the Forest Service has been working on keeping a portion of their fire camp waste out of the local landfills.
