Now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in Western C conference play, coach Jared Koskela and his brand-new 8-Man Hawk football team will get a chance to see how good they really are when they take on the giant-killing Clark Fork Mountain Cats, quite possibly the hottest 8-Man team in Montana right now, in Alberton Friday night. • Hawks find rhythm versus Breakers

    John Hamilton|Sep 12, 2019

Playing effective volleyball is all about finding your rhythm. When the serves are singing, the bumps shots are going where they are directed and the ball is thumping the floor to a steady beat from the kills shots, volleyball teams can orchestrate beautiful music together. Still searching for the perfect tempo, the Lady Hawks hit some high notes and low notes in Western B net action last week. Hitting the low notes, the Hawks were swept 25-15, 25-13, 25-9 by powerful Florence in Florence Thursd...

  • Devils face Troy again, and again

    John Hamilton|Sep 12, 2019

Troy, Troy and Troy again. The Noxon Lady Red Devils will get their fill of the Troy Trojans on the volleyball court this week, playing the Trojans at Troy Thursday and hosting the Troy girls in Noxon next Tuesday. In between those net dates with Troy, coach Teri Wilkinson and her Devils will entertain Charlo Saturday. Featuring two freshmen (Emily Brown and Avery Burgess) in the starting lineup, the Lady Devils have a decidedly youthful look to their lineup. Wilkinson said Noxon is in a bit of...

    John Hamilton|Sep 12, 2019

Heading into the 2019 volleyball season, the Hot Springs Savage Heat girls were among the District 14C league favorites based on the returning talent from last year's team. Then along came another talented player in the form of 5-9 Lily Winn, and coach Alisha Pablo and her Savage Heat went from being solid contenders to being solid favorites in the 14C net wars. Evidence of how dominating the Hot Springs girls can be was on full display in Noxon Thursday as the Heat swept the hometown Lady Red...

  • Hill players go stag as ladies stay away

    John Hamilton|Sep 12, 2019

It was a stag party at River’s Bend Monday morning as the Over the Hill gang’s men went a round without the presence of any ladies. With the fairer sex no where to be found, the Hill men were free to let it all hang out on 9-9-19, and hang it out there they did. Grabbing the all-men’s day competition by the throat, Dave Garr shot down the low gross round of 40, while Don Hansen factored in his handicap to arrive at the low net of 30. In hole play, Hansen made good with the shot closest to the pin on No. 2 and smacked the long 70+ drive on No...

  • No. 3 Savage Heat blast Sunburst

    John Hamilton|Sep 12, 2019

Now that Sunburst’s bubble has been burst, it’s time to take aim at the Rebels. The Hot Springs Savage Heat burned Sunburst 52-6 in Sunburst Friday and will take their 2-0 non-conference record into battle this week with the likewise 2-0 Shields Valley Rebels in Hot Springs Friday night. For argument’s sake, the Savage Heat were ranked No. 3 among all Montana high school 6-Man teams in the most recent 406mtsports.com football rankings while Shields Valley checked in at No. 9. Which clearly makes this marquee matchup a key early season game...

  • Red Devils head to the far east

    John Hamilton|Sep 12, 2019

Head east young men, and don’t stop until you reach faraway Reed Point, just this side of Chicago, uh, maybe we mean Billings. Fresh off an easy 64-7 season-opening win over the visiting Heart Butte Warriors last Friday, coach Bart Haflich and his enterprising Noxon Red Devil football team will now travel some 400 miles one way to go and play the Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades in Reed Point this Friday. At least the Devils do not have to go the extra 30 miles or so they would have been required to travel had the game been in Rapelje (...
