The Sanders County Elections office has a new office space with more room to focus on county election procedures. The office, which was previously located within the Clerk and Recorder's office at the courthouse, has moved across Jefferson Street to 1037 W. Main St., Suite 102. The location was formerly rented by the Montana Department of Revenue and is next door to Clark Fork Title. "We needed more room and this allows us a more focused approach to elections," Election Administrator McKenna...

    Annie Wooden|Sep 15, 2022

It was a busy summer for the Thompson Falls City Pool. Manager Sandra Kazmierczak detailed the 2022 pool season for the city council at its meeting Monday. Kazmierczak said the 10-week season from the June 13 opening to the August 19 closing was great. “We had a strong staff that interacted well with the public,” she noted. Mayor Mark Sheets commended how well the pool staff did despite challenges. Sheets noted that the pool ran on reduced hours due to a smaller number of lifeguard applicants. “I was very thankful to have such a great staff...

    Miriah Kardelis|Sep 15, 2022

Last weekend, eight volunteers joined Easter Sanders County Conservation District (ESSCD) for their river clean-up in Plains, a once annual event that has not been held for a number of years. “The last time an event like this was held was approximately 10 to 15 years ago after complaints came in about multiple tires in the river,” said ESCCD administrator Emily Baker. “We are always looking for ways to get involved in the communities who fund and support us. This idea has been floating aroun...

  • Our Viewpoint

    Sep 15, 2022

Fall is in the air. Leaves are turning, the mornings are cooler, and the sun is setting earlier. The kids are back in the routine of school, and people are putting their gardens to bed for the winter. It’s time to start thinking about the other big activity this fall - election season. Once again, as a county newspaper and a trusted source for factual information, I will be doing my best to provide voters and readers with information to help you make educated decisions on Nov. 8, general election day. As I wrote several weeks ago, we as voters...

  • Montana Viewpoint

    Jim Elliott|Sep 15, 2022

Irate Americans are arming themselves and heading to library board meetings to defend children against evil by insisting that the library remove books that offend society. Notice I did not say trying to defend their own children, they mean to defend the children of people they do not know. Listen, they are going about it all wrong. If I wanted to keep my kids from reading a book the last thing I would tell them is that they can’t read it. I spent a lot of time as a kid under the covers with a f...

  • We love Montana

    Sep 15, 2022

On Saturday, September 3, 2022, my husband and I attended the Sanders County Fair. We purchased seats for the rodeo, had a bite to eat at the picnic table area and left to return that evening for the rodeo. I discovered later on the way home that I had left my fanny pack on the picnic table. We returned, but the fanny pack was gone. I checked with the fair office and the first aid office, along with individuals around the picnic tables. The fanny pack was gone. Later that evening we discovered someone had brought the missing fanny pack to the...

  • Support Montanans

    Sep 15, 2022

Montana needs politicians who support Montana and Montanans. That’s not Mr. Zinke’s priority. The majority of his campaign funds are from outside Montana and from corporate interests. Only 6% of his campaign funds comes from Montanans. Combining that paltry 6% with Montana corporate donations, it rises to a scant 15%, leaving 85% of his campaign funds coming from out of state. . Over one-third of this funding comes from Texas, Florida, Georgia, and the D.C. area. He will be seriously beholden to groups and individuals outside of Montana. It...

    Ed Moreth|Sep 15, 2022

  • Savage Heat get first win

    Annie Wooden|Sep 15, 2022

The Hot Springs football team was hungry for their first win of the season last week. After losing their first two contests of the seasons, they waited patiently all week to host the Twin Bridges Falcons on their home field on Friday. The wait was a little longer than anticipated, as the Twin Bridges bus broke down on the journey to Hot Springs. The wait was worth it though, as the Savage Heat carded their first win of the season, 40-6. In the opening series, Hot Springs stopped the Falcons on...
