    Annie Wooden|Sep 22, 2022

The Plains cross country team has been rising to the competition this season and coach Jesse Jermyn said the season is going great. Everyone on his team ran a personal record last weekend at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula. “The Mountain West was good. It lets us know where the kids are with other runners in the state,” Jermyn said. Simeon Costner, a sixth grader, finished fifth among middle school boys with a time of 7 minutes, 28 seconds. “Simeon is an extremely fast and extremely competitive runner.” High school runners Kalem Ercanbr...

The Thompson Falls Blue Hawks lost their last non-conference game of the season, leaving their record 0-4. The Hawks traveled to Fairfield to play the Eagles on their homecoming night, losing to the Eagles 0-12. Although suffering their fourth loss, the Hawks are still optimistic about the rest of their season. “If we continue to drill as we have, keep getting better and better, it’ll be fun to see where we end up with conference and playoffs,” said senior captain Breck Ferris. The Hawks started the game off by throwing an interception on th...

  • Red Devils add another win to record

    Annie Wooden|Sep 22, 2022

The Noxon Red Devils are riding the wave of a successful season, adding another win to their record with a 68-39 victory in West Yellowstone last weekend. “It’s going great,” said coach Lucas MacArthur. “The boys are playing well. After our loss to Geyser, they turned it up and got more aggressive with practices. Since then we’ve come out and played hard.” MacArthur said West Yellowstone was a bigger challenge than Noxon had expected, but the Red Devils adapted and kept a strong lead throughout the game. “We didn’t play our best defense bu...

    Ed Moreth|Sep 22, 2022

It's not as intense as the World Cup, but the little soccer players of Sanders County showed much of the same competitive spirit - even when no score was being kept. Nine teams of the Clark Fork Soccer Alliance from U6 to U10 from Plains and Hot Springs faced off each other at Amundson Sports Complex at Plains Saturday morning. Only the U10 teams officially kept score, though some coaches and parents of the younger players kept track, said Ashley DePoe, coach for the Hot Springs Lil' Heat U8...

  • Hot Springs undefeated in conference play

    Annie Wooden|Sep 22, 2022

The pieces are coming together for the Hot Springs football team. After starting the season with losses, the Savage Heat are now on a winning streak. They were on the road last weekend, where they picked up their second win in a row, a 41-6 victory over White Sulphur Springs. It was redemption for the Savage Heat, who had lost to White Sulphur Springs the two previous years. “Our kids played hard,” Hot Springs Coach Jim Lawson said. “We’re young, but we’re getting better every week. Our blocking and tackling has improved quite a lot.” The...
