  • Heat girls win Arlee tourney

    John Hamilton|Sep 26, 2019

This is not the tournament that the Hot Springs Savage Heat really want to win, but they will gladly take it anyway. Coach Alisha Pablo and her Savage Heat played great all day and won the Arlee tournament Saturday, taking down District 14C rival Charlo 8-15, 16-14, 16-14 in the championship. The Heat had avenged an earlier loss this season to Sanders County foe Plains by defeating the Trotters in the tourney semifinals earlier in the day. “The tournament was great! The girls played well together, had a lot of fun,” Pablo said, “and prove...

  • Trotters conquer sick feelings

    John Hamilton|Sep 26, 2019

More than suffering a general malaise, the Plains Trotters were downright sick as a team last week. Speaking through a stuffed nose herself Monday evening, coach Jesse Butcher said most of her team was under the weather last week and it showed in the results, as the Trotters were blown out by Thompson Falls 25-12, 25-20, 25-21 by the Lady Hawks in Thompson Falls Sept. 17, and then fought to a no-place finish in the Arlee Tournament Saturday. Normally a hot serving team so far this season, the Trotters struggled with serving and service...

  • Young Hawks blast Troy

    Sep 26, 2019

The Thompson Falls Junior High Blue Hawks football team defeated the Troy Trojans 42-0 in Troy Saturday. Hawk coach Chadd Laws said his Falls boys played very well after losing their first game of the season to Mission in Thompson Falls two weeks ago. “We saw marked improvement from all our kids in this game,” Laws said. “Our offensive line did a great job of blocking and our backs were able to take advantage of that, and we also did a great job of tackling on the defensive side.” Laws said Justin Haagenson and Hayden Hanks keyed the Thompso...

  • Lady Devils recuperate quickly

    John Hamilton|Sep 26, 2019

The recuperative powers of the Noxon Lady Red Devil volleyball team were on full display last week. Afflicted with several illnesses, including a couple of cases of strep throat, coach Teri Wilkinson’s Lady Devils still managed to play some good volleyball, defeating Troy 25-18, 27-25, 21-25, 25-16 in Noxon Sept. 17, and then travelling to Arlee for the Arlee Tournament Saturday. Perhaps feeling good in just making it to Arlee in their addled state, the Devils did not reach the semifinal round in the tourney, which featured mostly District 1...
