    Ed Moreth|Sep 27, 2018

Crooks utilize the cover of darkness for dastardly deeds, but Dave Williams of Plains and his crew used the nighttime to surprise residents with colorful art. Just as the sun was setting last Wednesday evening, Williams and 15 friends and family members started tacking up nearly 1,000 feet of the Wild Horse Plains herd across the chain link fence on the greenway along Railroad Street. By 11 p.m., "Becoming the Guardian of the Herd" was up on display. The exhibit is a form of guerilla art, which...

  • Hawk harriers host XC meet at River's Bend

    John Hamilton|Sep 27, 2018

The Thompson Falls Invitational is always a cool cross country race to participate in. After all, you have the spacious, green fairways and the serene Clark Fork River flowing by, all under the brow of the forested splendor of Flat Iron Ridge, River's Bend golf course is just kind of a cool place to be at any time; but that wasn't what made the Thompson Falls Invite so cool this time around last Thursday. No, the weather is what made the day at this year's local XC meet. "Finally, some cooler,...

    Sep 27, 2018

by John Hamilton Chaos causers; that is what the Thompson Falls football Blue Hawks want to be this week. Fresh off a 43-0 road loss to the undefeated, No. 1 ranked Bigfork Vikings last Friday, the Hawks will jump out of the proverbial frying pan and into the fire this week when equally powerful Loyola visits Previs Field this Friday for Thompson Falls' annual homecoming game. Loyola destroyed two-time defending State B champion Eureka 56-12 in Missoula Friday night, a week after Bigfork had...

  • Winning in the wild, wild west

    John Hamilton|Sep 27, 2018

Which team will end up being the one that finally tames the wild, wild west? Still in the heat of the race to be that team, the Hot Springs Savage Heat went to Gardiner Saturday and upended the homestanding Bruins 54-7 to improve their season record to 3-1 in conference and 4-1 overall in the suddenly whacked-out Western C 6-Man division. What's making the Western C seem a little whacked out right now is some of the other results from last weekend. Previously considered the team to beat and the...

Noxon is only a game off the conference lead as previously unbeaten White Sulphur Springs lost 52-32 to West Yellowstone and fell to 4-1 last week, bunching up the teams at the top of Western C standings. John Hamilton|Sep 27, 2018

Sitting at 1-4 after a brutal first half of the season – which proceeded with a 68-0 loss to the No. 1 ranked, defending State C champion and now 5-0 Flint Creek Titans, in Drummond Saturday – the Horsemen finally get a shot at some more pedestrian competition when 3-2 Mission visits Plains Fri...

Coaches Michael T. Allen and Brandon Fisher were set to guide the young Hawks against Sanders County rival Plains Tuesday afternoon...
