The event last weekend was held out at the Double H Arena, on family property owned by the Helveys. Called "Five Card Draw," the event allowed participants to put into the pot for winnings during the events, just like poker. A total of 24 contestants came out to show their skill and prowess in horsemanship and anywhere from 50 to 100 people came out to watch. The event last...
When asked to describe a pageant contestant, one might usually describe a tall lean woman in a dress. Not many would say an under 5 foot, 6 inch gal wearing cowboy boots, but that is exactly who just won the first ever Mrs. Montana Petite. Of 300 entries, 28-year-old Jennay Ovitt from Plains won the state title. As part of the unique pageant, USA Petite, women of short stature from across the country are recognized for their tenacity, beauty, intelligence and community involvement. There are...

HOT SPRINGS – There is no shame in losing when you get better in the bargain. Coach Alisha Pablo and her improving Savage Heat netters lost to visiting Seeley-Swan in four tough sets in Hot Springs Thursday. Two of the better teams in the Western C division this fall, the District 13C Black Hawks and the 14C Savage Heat could end up seeing each other again when the Western C tournament is played. "We look forward to playing them again if we get the chance, Seeley-Swan is a tough team," Pablo o...
NOXON – The White Sulphur Springs Hornets made the long trip to Noxon pay off with a 33-18 road win over the Red Devils in the West End Friday in Western C 6-Man football action. With both teams playing only their second games of the season five weeks into what normally would be the middle of the season, the Hornets had the goods to get by the determined home boys from Noxon. "It was strange having a game of this magnitude, this late in the season, when it seemed kind of like an early season g...
It’s been a blankety, blank, blank, blank kind of season for the Thompson Falls Blue Hawk football team, and you could expect the blanking to continue. If coach Jared Koskela and his hungry Hawks have their way, that is. Unbeaten with a 5-0 record and ranked No. 3 in the latest Montana 8-Man power poll, the Hawks flew into Arlee Friday and blanked the Warriors 52-0. It was the red-hot Blue Hawks’ fourth, count ‘em fourth, straight shutout win. Since shading Mission 38-32 in Mission to start the season, Koskela and his Hawks have had a blank...

Coach Sandra Kazmierczak likes the direction her latest group of Lady...

The year was 1950 and the date was October 2 when seven U.S. newspapers published what would become one of the biggest cultural influences in American history. The day was Monday and Minnesota native Charles M. Schulz was given the opportunity to introduce Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Peanuts gang to the world. It all began with “Li’l Folks,” which featured the same characters as the Peanuts, but was sold by Schulz. In order to continue without copyright infringements, the comic was renamed “Peanuts,” according to A&E Television, History.c...

The total fish caught in the fall event so far is 6,661. Lonepine’s Mike Benson is in first place for the top anglers. Saturday the winds were blowing most of the day on the east side of the lake. Some said it was the roughest day on the water for so few fish that landed in the boats in a long time. Anglers that were used to h...
