  • Welcome to Plains

    Ed Moreth|Oct 17, 2019

Visitors coming into Plains from the west will see a new welcome sign, thanks to a Paradise artist. It took Steve Eberhardt of Paradise more than 100 hours, almost 70 pieces of wood, and over six gallons of 31 different color recipes to create the new two-sided sign, which was assembled Sunday afternoon with the help of a few friends. "I wanted to pick colors that look fun and inviting so even on a dull day it's bright and cheerful," said Eberhardt, an artist for 43 years. The former sign was...

People often go away for Christmas, either on vacation since the kids have extra time off from school, or to visit family. But Thanksgiving is the perfect fall family holiday. It's the last weekend of hunting season, there are plenty of football games to watch, we get in several games of Pinochle and...

  • Montana Viewpoint

    Jim Elliott|Oct 17, 2019

Maybe the most interesting thing about Columbus’s “discovery” of America was that he thought he had landed in India, which was where he was headed when he began his trip in 1492. The Italian explorer, sailing under a Spanish flag, missed India by thousands of miles, landing on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, now home to the nations of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. But for better or worse it was Columbus who early on was believed to be the first European to discover America. Today, the s...

  • It's time to plant fall flower bulbs

    Miriah Kardelis|Oct 17, 2019

After a long, dreary winter, bright and bold colors blooming are a welcome sight when you gaze out your window. Planting any spring blooming bulbs in autumn will require a little planning on your end in order to achieve that guaranteed color. While the selection of bulbs out there is quite diverse, the top choices (and easiest) to grow include: tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinth, iris, gladiolus, lilies and of course, peonies. All these bulbs can be planted in the fall, about six to eight weeks before the ground freezes. In Montana, that...

  • A sweet homecoming

    John Hamilton|Oct 17, 2019

A rare home win just in time to produce a sweet homecoming victory. Plains Horsemen football coach Eddie Fultz was looking for a little homecoming revenge against the Victor Pirates in Plains Friday night and, by the time the king and queen were crowned, the game was played and the lights were dimmed, the Horsemen had won 66-6 to cap a perfect fall evening. It was Plains’ first home win since the 2017 season, Fultz said, and soundly avenges a 44-34 loss to the Pirates in Victor’s homecoming game last fall. Improving to 3-3 in Western Con...
