  • Community helps T. Falls fire victim

    John Dowd|Nov 5, 2020

After a fire early last week devastated a business of Thompson Falls and almost claimed a church as well, community members from that church decided to reach out and show their support. The project, headed by Kelly Needles, is drawing support from not only the First Baptist Church of Thompson Falls, but others outside the church as well. “He’s always been the kind of person to help; the giver,” said Pastor Jeffery Phillips of the First Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff talked about how even as the blaze was going, Jerry Lai, the owner of Genki...

  • Blue Hawks bull past Simms Tigers 50-6

    John Hamilton|Nov 5, 2020

Want some? Come get some then. Answering the physicality of the big, bad Simms Tigers with some bruising play of their own, the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks overpowered the Tigers 50-6 in the first round of the Montana 8-Man football playoffs Saturday. Now 9-0 and unbeaten at Previs Field since 2018, coach Jared Koskela and crew will make the incredibly long trek to Scobey for an 8-Man quarterfinal date with the Scobey/Opheim Spartans at 1 p.m. Saturday. The No. 1 seed from the east, Scobey...

  • Lady Hawks claim District 7B conference crown

    John Hamilton|Nov 5, 2020

It was almost as if it was meant to be. Now we will find out about the rest of the story in Anaconda. The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks fulfilled at least part of their 2020 net destiny by sweeping to the District 7B tournament title last week, dispatching Mission 25-14, 25-10, 25-11 Thursday and then spiking Eureka 25-16, 11-25, 25-21, 25-17 in the chipper Friday. As the Hawks had earned the top seed with a perfect conference record in the regular season, Thompson Falls hosted both matches in the...

The road to Scobey is a long one, a very long one indeed, 629 miles to be exact according the Montana Department of Transportation in-state distance calculator. That 629 miles might not seem like a real long distance to many who have lived in Montana for a long time but consider this – if you went the other way from Thompson Falls and headed west, you would reach Seattle at something past 400 miles, roughly the same distance as it is to relatively nearby Billings, which after all, is only about halfway across our continent-eating state. As l...

  • Heat move on to Western C

    John Hamilton|Nov 5, 2020

Battle scars are meant to be wore proudly, like badges of honor. Now carrying fresh, hard-earned battle scars, the Hot Springs Savage Heat secured second place in the District 14C tournament Saturday in St. Regis and will gladly do battle again this week in the to-be-played remotely 2020 Western C tourney, which was due to begin Tuesday. In yet another twist to this wild and wooly high school sports season marriage of 2020 and COVID-19, the Heat have officially advanced into the second round as Tuesday’s opponents, the Gardiner Lady Bruins, w...
