  • H-Men rebound, top Eagles

    John Hamilton|Dec 6, 2018

Some things seem to never change. One of those things is the fact that the Plains boys always seem to have a competitive basketball team, no matter who is coaching them in any particular season. An assistant to Mike Cole the past several seasons, Tyrell Allen coached his first two games as the Horsemen's main man last week. Holding true to the Horsemen's tradition of quality basketball squads, the Plains boys split their first two games of the season in the Western C Tip-Off tourney in...

  • Barber guides Heat boys in tourney

    John Hamilton|Dec 6, 2018

The Cameron Barber era has begun. The Hot Springs Savage Heat boys played hard but dropped two games to District 13C teams at the Western C Tip-Off Tournament in Frenchtown, falling 53-49 to Darby Friday and 62-54 to Seeley-Swan Saturday. The first two games of Barber’s coaching career in Hot Springs as the head man for the Heat boys were both games that he thought the Savage Heat could have won. “I was really proud of the boys,” he said. “Both of those teams went to divisionals from 13C, so to be in a couple of close games where we only lo...

  • Devils win 2 in Frenchtown

    John Hamilton|Dec 6, 2018

The Noxon Red Devils were seeing the basket with 20-20 vision last week, and the end result was two 20-point wins for the West End boys. Sitting at 2-0 in non-conference action, the Devils were to have played at Clark Fork, Idaho, Tuesday (results were not available at press time) and will host St. Regis Friday in Noxon's District 14C conference opener. Coach Bart Haflich said his team's experience level, their hard-earned hoops maturity, paid off in the Devils' two wins in the Western C...

  • Loggers chop down Hawks

    John Hamilton|Dec 6, 2018

If Saturday’s game in Libby is any indication, finding points could be a problem for the Thompson Falls boys basketball team. The cold-shooting Blue Hawks lost 55-36 to the Ryggs Johnston-led Libby Loggers in both teams’ non-conference season opener. Now 0-1, the Hawks will host the boys portion of the District 1B-7B Shootout this weekend in Thompson Falls. Eureka will play Choteau in the first game at 5:30 p.m. Friday followed by Thompson Falls versus Conrad at 7. On Saturday, Eureka will play Conrad at 1 p.m. followed by the Hawks against Cho...

  • Trotters start to finish

    John Hamilton|Dec 6, 2018

FRENCHTOWN – When they started to finish, the Trotters had found the way their new coach was wanting them to play. The Plains Trotters swept a pair of games in the Western C Tip-Off tournament in Frenchtown last week, nudging by Drummond 22-18 Friday and running past Clark Fork 55-37 Saturday. The 2-0 District 14C Trotters will continue going against 13C teams this week, hosting Darby Saturday in their only scheduled action of the week. Coach Eddie Fultz liked the way his Trotters played in scrapping past the Mountain Cats Saturday after the w...

  • Savage Heat girls 2-0

    John Hamilton|Dec 6, 2018

And just like that, the Savage Heat girls are 2-0. Coach Richard Jackson guided the Heat past Lincoln 36-23 Friday and Seeley-Swan 40-28 Saturday in the Western C Tip-Off tourney in Frenchtown. "We played well enough to win," Jackson said. "I think we can play better but we made the plays we needed to in Frenchtown." Though the Heat got off to a busy start in the Tip-Off tourney, they will now be forced to cool their heels before returning to the court Dec. 13 at Arlee in the first District 14C...
