  • Brain games test students

    Ed Moreth|Dec 26, 2019

Having to think on the last day of school of the calendar year can be tough, unless it's a fun kind of thinking and can lead to bragging rights and a prize. For two hours Friday morning, just over 180 students participated in the annual Brain Bash competition to kick off the Christmas vacation at Plains School. With the theme of "What I Want to be When I Grow Up," just over 180 students on 14 teams from seventh grade to seniors went through more than a dozen stations set up around the school....

  • Letter to the editor: Wolves are the biggest problem

    Dec 26, 2019

12 was a very poor hunting season. After seeing the results, I researched the deer and elk harvest results back to 1958. In 1958 there were 140 elk, 75 mule deer and 95 whitetails checked through the Dry Creek check station. In 1959, there were 149 elk, 67 mule deer and 101 whitetails. This makes the 2019 results of 15 elk, 11 mule deer and 91 whitetails very dismal. • Our Viewpoint: Sharing the holiday spirit with others

    Dec 26, 2019

Remember that feeling when you were little and anticipating Christmas morning? Sure, it had a lot to do with stockings and presents, but it was mostly just that holiday spirit. Baking cookies, visiting with neighbors and being with your family. It's been a little overwhelming with the holiday rush this year. Having less time between Thanksgiving and Christmas caught us off guard. But the holidays are here. We're still trying to find those presents we bought early and kept in a good hiding spot. And every time we go to the store, we buy a...

  • Fair board to bring back lights

    Ed Moreth|Dec 26, 2019

The Sanders County Fair Commission voted unanimously to bring back the fair’s Christmas light show. Board Chairman Randy Woods said that it’s too late for this year, and he’d like to decorate the fairgrounds for the 2020 holiday, but they need to first look at the cost. “I have looked at all the Christmas lights stored underneath the grandstands and most of the lighting is pretty weathered, cracked and damaged. The scenery stuff and the frames are all still good, but it all needs to be relit,” said Woods at last week’s monthly fair board meeti...

    Dec 26, 2019

Fourteen youngsters and one adult were promoted to the next belt level at Clark Fork Valley Hospital building one last Monday. The kids' ages ranged from 6 years old to 12 and their belts went from yellow to purple, said Jason Williams, the club chief sensei and one of two judges for the testing.
