DRUMMOND 3, HOT SPRINGS 0 The Hot Springs Savage Heat hosted their first game taking on the Drummond Trojans, falling in three sets. In the first set Drummond was quick to take an early lead over Hot Springs, and they were able to keep their lead 9-3. The Savage Heat tried to keep up with the Trojans but they couldn't gain the lead and soon Drummond had a massive 10 point lead. That was until Hot Springs' own Brooke Jackson was able to serve up several aces to bring the score to 18-14.The...
The sun was shining, the kids were laughing and literally a good time was had by all at the 2024 Sanders County Fair and PRCA Rodeo. Kids could be seen playing ball in their self made pen in the camping area. The atmosphere was filled with frivolity and safety for all attendees. A new event this year was a concert in the main arena on Wednesday evening. Levi Blom entertained a small crowd with his mix of country and rock. Blom showed up with an RV and a pop-up trailer perfect for playing from...
People attend the Sanders County Fair for a number of reasons - carnival, rodeo, demolition derby, and greasy food - but seeing the 4-H kids show their animals is always a big draw. "I think most people come to see the exhibits and the animals," said Karrie Baldwin of Thompson Falls. Her grandson, John McNamara of the South Side Sparks club in Plains, had the most animals at the fair, including six sheep, a rooster named "Reggie," and the only pocket pet at the fair, a scorpion named "Forest."...

Ten youths competed with their canines Sunday evening at the Trout Creek home of dog project leader Bailee Patten. "I have so enjoyed working with your kids," Patten told family and friends gathered for the competition. "They have done a phenomenal job this year." First up for the dog competition was agility. Level 1 participants led their...
I’m sure it is just a coincidence that Montana homeowners’ property tax bills come out just a couple of weeks before the election. Coincidence or not, it’s a good reminder for taxpayers to take a closer look at the person who wants their vote. We need no reminders that last year’s property tax bills were a real eye opener, and that this year’s will present more of the same awakening. That’s in spite of the governor’s largess in offering a $675 property tax rebate for taxes paid in 2022 and anot...

No one showed. “Nobody ever goes to these things, but yet they complain and whine and holler,” said Emmett. “They don’t come to voice their opinion or even inquire about the budget. They just don’t care,” she added. “I can say it is frustrating t...

The Thompson Falls school board met on Monday. The 2023-24 Trustees Financial Summary report and the 2024-25 final budget were approved. In April 1981, Montana Governor Ted Schwinden signed a proclamation declaring Trout Creek the Huckleberry Capital of Montana. "The community of Trout Creek deserves the special recognition of this state because of its efforts in community development and its efforts to promote the natural resources and natural splendors of Montana," the governor wrote more than 44 years ago. The small town lived up to its selection once again last weekend for the 44th annual Huckleberry Festival. Trout Creek...

Busse, a Democrat, stated that Republicans have made Montana "a playground for billionaires." Busse's campaign slogan is "Get your Montana back." He talked about the importance of rural healthcare...
