  • Local artist uses various media to tell stories

    Miriah Kardelis|Mar 26, 2020

Steve Eberhardt believes that part of his job as an artist is to not only expose people to art, but to tell them a story. The unique exposition of his work is a testimonial to the talent Eberhardt brings, not only to Montana, but to the hearts of the people who live here. "A lot of people don't have the exposure. Not just exposure for the artists, but for people to be exposed to it. It's profound how many artists there are in Montana," Eberhardt explained. "Artists are unique storytellers. They...

  • Keeping kids busy while at home

    Shana Neesvig|Mar 26, 2020

As a state, Montana has resisted the COVID-19 effects as long as possible. As the rest of the country is succumbing to the illness, we have stood strong as our rate of infection is minimal in comparison. The time has come for us to do our part in decreasing the viral spread. With that, parents are now finding themselves with children home and could use a little prompting of the imagination to keep busy hands, well, busy. Some ideas you may find interesting and likeable, others not so much, although they may inspire other ideas. Perhaps these...

The Trout Creek Farmer’s Market manager has stepped down to allow for a fresh face to take on the mantle. Sarah Cooper has been involved with the farmers market since before its inception back in 2012. Since then, she has managed the market for nearly every year, taking only one year off. Before the Trout Creek Farmers Market was started, Cooper was a part of the Thompson Falls Farmers Market Board. “I always wanted to have one in my own community,” said Cooper, but she also didn’t want it to compete with the market in Thompson Falls. She got...

PRESTON'S LIVERY STABLE was located where St. William's Catholic Church is today. In addition to renting horses and horse drawn rigs, Preston delivered drinking water and ice for icebox refrigerators. He would harvest the ice from the river and store it in a building located by the railroad tracks packing the ice blocks in sawdust to keep them from melting. And now my readers know how Preston Avenue and Ferry Street got their names. 70 YEARS AGO • MARCH 22, 1950 A.C. PRESTON DIES IN SPOKANE, F...

It was an evening of music and storytelling last Friday as the Sanders County Arts Council welcomed The Wardens to the Rex Theatre. The Wardens came all the way from Canmore, Alberta, and with them they brought a night full of harmonizing melodies and tales about their experiences protecting lands and wildlife in Banff National Park. Mar 12, 2020

Exploring the mountains and rivers of the Inland Northwest isn’t just a part of the regional lifestyle — it’s also a walk through history. The signs of that history aren’t apparent to everyone. But they are to Tony Lewis. From his days teaching physical geography at Louisiana State University, he’s been fascinated by the forces that give maps their distinctive features. It’s no wonder, then, that he’s found like-minded peers at the Ice Age Floods Institute. For the past seven years, Lewis has served as an institute chapter president, ed...
