Passenger rail service through Montana's southern route ended 43 years ago. The Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority (BSPRA) and their continued efforts to restore Amtrak's North Coast Hiawatha route, which stretches from Chicago to Seattle and Portland via southern Montana, was given an opportunity to break new ground. AN ILL FATED TOWN Another fire visited Belknap last week, and destroyed a number of buildings and much cut cordwood. Among the houses burned were J.J. Verkler’s door and sash factory; the saloon of the Sprague Brewery and the blacksmith shop in the rear; C.W. Godfrey’s cabin and several tents. Godfrey’s cabin contained two tons of hay. The GFWC Thompson Falls Woman’s Club hosts an annual Pinochle Marathon to raise funds for the Blanche M. Hurlburt Scholarship that is awarded to a graduating Thompson Falls High School student each May. The 62nd Annual Pinochle Marathon began in September and concluded in April.
