Every year, thousands of Montanans look to the New Year for a fresh opportunity to change their lives for the better. For Montanans who use tobacco, a great way to accomplish this is to quit for good. While some people have been able to quit completely on their own, others have found – using some of the same principles as with Weight Watchers and 12-step programs – that they are encouraged by support from friends. The Montana Tobacco Quit Line and American Indian Commercial Tobacco Quit Line do just that. The quit line programs offer free ser...

They purchased The Lodge at Trout Creek in May 2017 and have hoped to create a fine experience for a relaxation or romantic getaway. They have certainly...
It wasn’t that long ago that teachers were using chalkboards. The mess of the dust and banging the erasers to clean them off. Then came white boards and the cutting-edge technology of dry-erase markers in different colors. Today, teachers use SMART Boards. The boards are essentially a projection of the teacher’s computer, and allow them to access curriculum quickly. They also function as touch screens, allowing teachers and students a more interactive approach to learning. This year, Tho...

W.B. RUSSELL TIMBERMAN By Mike Scott contributor to The Plainsman An attempt will be made to portray a typical lumber camp as it was shortly after the beginning of the twentieth century, the personnel required to operate such an establishment and some of the customs. After selecting a site with an eye to the relative level topography and the proximity of a suitable water supply, construction of the buildings was started. Building material consisted almost exclusively of rough, green lumber...

The holiday season is always full of excitement and sometimes we feel money is necessary to have a jolly, magical Christmas. For those on a budget, this is a heavy burden. Rest assured, there are many ways to have a merry Christmas without spending a fortune. It is important to remember that the point of the holiday is not the commercial experience we have been trained to accept as truth. The holiday has always been celebrated by gifting those we hold dear to our hearts, but do we need to spend money on those we love to show our affection? If...

A dinosaur has a new home at the Sinclair Gas Station in Plains last week, but now the parents, Dave and JoAnne Colyer need to come up with a name for their new addition.
