Independently owned since 1905
Thompson Falls Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) just wrapped up their fourth annual "Donuts with Dads" and "Muffins with Moms." But the fun is not ending there, it is just the beginning.
Danielle Brotherton, PTO member, announced that instead of hosting the Santa Secret Shoppe, which has been presented at the elementary school the past few years as a means for students to purchase holiday gifts for family members, they will instead be introducing the first annual "Family Movie Night." She stated that the PTO "decided to opt for a more entertaining event instead this year," hoping to encourage participation from children, parents and guardians.
According to Brotherton, the feature will be "The Polar Express." Refreshments will be served and everyone is encouraged to attend the event wearing comfortable clothing, pajamas welcome, and sporting a blanket and pillow to contentedly "lounge as we enjoy a fun movie night." The event will take place on December 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the junior high gymnasium and is free, although donations are welcomed.
"We are always looking for ways to encourage and motivate parents to come into the school," said Brotherton.
Former Thompson Falls resident Autumn Kostka came up with the idea of Muffins with Moms and Donuts with Dads as a way to engage parent's interest in the school. In theory, the PTO was hoping to encourage more parental involvement within the school through volunteering in classrooms and helping with PTO events.
In previous years, Brotherton said that they have not seen an increase in parental involvement. But she stated that thankfully this has changed. "This year we have had a tremendous increase in parental volunteers," she said. "It has been wonderful to see!"
Falls PTO spends the entire calendar year coordinating events. Such events include the former Secret Santa Holiday Shoppe, Blue Hawk Buck prize drawings, Teacher Appreciation Week, Bingo Night, Donuts with Dads, Muffins with Moms and now Family Movie Night.
