Independently owned since 1905
Last week, we published a photo of the 1929 basketball team from Thompson Falls, calling out to readers to help us identify the players. Here is what we have learned so far.
Maryianne (Morin) Johnson lives in Ravalli, as does her sister, Sharon (Morin) Hill. When Sharon received her Jan. 11 Ledger in the mail last week and saw a picture of the 1929 Thompson Falls basketball team, she called her sister and said "that looks like our dad."
The photo and a wool basketball jersey were brought to the Ledger by Thompson Falls High School teacher Chadd Laws, who found the jersey while cleaning out a closet upstairs at the Thompson Falls Junior High gymnasium. Laws would like to display the memorabilia, along with the names of the players, in the commons area at the high school.
Maryianne and Sharon's father, Henry Morin, and his brother Ralph grew up on a ranch near Arlee. The boys went to Thompson Falls schools and lived in the dormitory. Maryianne called the Ledger to let us know that she believes her father and uncle are pictured in the historic photo. Maryianne said that her father later graduated from Loyola High School. She told us that she remembers someone her father went to school with who had the last name of Cotton.
Thanks to Maryianne for reaching out the Ledger. We're hoping that the more people who see this photo, the higher the chances we can identify all of the players and help Laws finish the display for the school.
