The Hot Springs Savage Heat boys don't have a lot of players – only six to be exact – but they do like to compete. And they can still win games, even if they are undermanned.
Coach Ricky DePoe and his Savage Heat won their first game of the season Thursday in Hot Springs, scrapping past the visiting St. Regis Tigers 42-33. On the road Friday, the Heat fell 56-29 to Charlo in Charlo.
The Heat have two more District 14C conference games on tap this week, visiting the unbeaten, No. 1 ranked Arlee Warriors in Arlee Thursday and returning home to Hot Springs to host Two Eagle River Friday.
Brandon Knudsen scored 12 points and Tyler Carr 11 to lead the Heat past St. Regis. Justin Salmi added nine points, Luke Waterbury six and Sean Fisher two.
Nic Day and Andrew Sanford dropped in 11 points apiece for St. Regis.
Against Charlo Knudsen canned 14 points, Carr 11, Salmi three and Waterbury one.
Tyson Petticrew scored 24 points for Charlo and Connor Koenig added 11.
