Plains coach Mike Cole wants more consistently good basketball play from his Horsemen. One thing his boys have consistently been able to do, and is something that Cole cannot find fault with, is win.
Cole and his Horsemen counted two more Ws last week as they improved to 5-1 in District 14C play and 9-1 overall with victories over Two Eagle River (63-34 in Plains Friday) and Noxon (51-35 in Noxon Saturday), but Cole always sees room for improvement.
“We have our moments when we are pretty good,” he admitted, “but there is always things that we can work on. Like playing better defense and taking better care of the ball.”
The Horsemen have two more opportunities to improve on their almost-perfect record this week, hosting 14C rival Charlo Thursday and visiting Troy for a non-conference game with the Trojans Friday.
Jay VonHeeder led the Horsemen in the win over Two Eagle last week with 14 points, Tanner Ovitt and Kyle Weeks added nine each, Derick Curry eight, Treydon Brouillette and Brandon Managhan six apiece, Wyatt Wyers and Sinjin LaDeaux five each and Esvin Reyes one.
Bronco Branson led Two Eagle with 17 points and Travis Pierre added eight.
At Noxon, Weeks and Curry led the Horsemen with 13 points apiece, Ovitt scored 10, Managhan eight, Matt McCracken, Weyers and LaDeaux two each and VonHeeder one.
