Students from Thompson Falls Elementary and Junior High competed in a Geography Bee. There were 10 contestants competing from grades fifth through eighth. The competition was made up of two rounds, the final round and the championship round. The final round consisted of questions with double elimination, meaning once a student has answered two questions wrong they are out of the competition. Questions were asked until there were only two students remaining who moved to the championship round to determine one winner.
Paul Sundstrom, a fifth grader, and Elijah Ratliff, an eighth grader, went head to head in the championship round until Sundstrom was awarded the win. He will now advance to the next level of competition which is to take a qualifying test to determine the state competitors.
The top scoring 100 students will then go on to the 2018 State Geography Bee, which is set for April 6 in Bozeman.
