Even rednecks get cabin fever. The Trout Creek Community Improvement Association (TCCIA) gives everyone a reason to step out for a night on the town with the annual Red Neck Ball. This year’s event is set for Saturday, March 3, at the Lakeside Motel & Resort in Trout Creek. The event begins with a no-host social hour at 5 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m.
The Red Neck Ball includes a costume contest and live entertainment. A live auction with auctioneer Kevin Hill will award the highest bidders with items such as guns, knives, coolers, family fun buckets, a wagon of joy and a few surprises.
The costume contest is always a hoot, as even the redneckiest guests are able to up the ante for those with fake teeth, straw hats, suspenders and fake bottles of moonshine (well, possibly fake). Musical entertainment in the form of hillbilly porch music will be provided by some familiar faces in character. “The Tammy Whynots” will share humorous songs wrapped in musical talent. The ever-entertaining group, “The Knapweeds” utilize traditional hillbilly instruments to deliver down-home tunes, often with cutting humor directed at themselves. “Milo the Magnificient” is a talented pooch who has been known to sing and dance.
The Redneck Ball is TCCIA biggest fundraiser of the year, and not just because everyone is getting out to cure cabin fever. Fun activities are the draw and each one brings cash into the coffers of the community improvement group. Redneck Jail will be setup for friends to bribe the redneck sheriff to act as an escort for mouthy friends. Twenty dollars buys twenty minutes of peace as the inmate is stuck in jail with no beer, holding a sign describing their offense, such as ‘indecent exposure’ or ‘drunk in public.’ Balloon raffles and games like ‘heads or tails’ will keep attendees laughing.
Lakeside Resort will be selling sloppy joes and pizza. Tickets for the event are $15, $25 per couple, and available at D&D Liquor in Thompson Falls or the Lakeside Resort in Trout Creek.
In 2017, the TCCIA hosted free events for community members of all ages to enjoy such as the Easter Eggstravaganza, Shakespeare in the Park, Haunted Park, the Capitol Christmas Tree Whistle Stop, Community Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, Family Bingo night, just to name a few,” said Elizabeth Stender of the group’s efforts. TCCIA’s Jean Manning added, “We also proudly sponsors the Trout Creek Farmers Market. TCCIA is also very committed to assisting our community by donating money towards sports teams, school programs and assisting with community goodwill projects for community members in need.” In 2018, TCCIA said they plan on continuing these events, but they have also set high goals for the property in their care. Trout Creek Park is slated for a new playground, a sprinkler system and finishing touches on several much-needed park improvements.
