P-HS grapplers wrestle the Valley

by John Hamilton

Twenty-four Plains-Hot Springs Little Guy wrestlers, including six champions and five second place winners from the Valley Tournament in Superior last Saturday, have earned berths into the Inter-Valley Tournament this Saturday in Stevensville.

Those 24 are in addition to all Beginner wrestlers, who automatically earn entry into the Inter-Valley, and the entire Plains-Hot Springs team now heads to the final qualifier in Stevi in hopes of advancing on to the Western Montana Little Guy Championships in Kalispell March 23-24.

In Superior Saturday, Novice grapplers Isiah Mathers (55 pounds), Gavin Schrenk (75) and Nick McCallister (85), and Middle wrestlers Johnny Waterbury (80), Brady Schrenk (105) and Will Tatum (166) all won first place, while Novice competitors Matthew Thurston (60), Bill DeTienne (75) and Chance Angle (85), and Middle wrestlers Drew Carey (85) and Aaron Pfister (95) won second place in their weight classes to pace the Plains-Hot Springs contingent.

Other P-HS wrestlers to earn spots in this week’s Inter-Valley tourney include: Kort Craft, Odin Max and Mikey MacNair (Novice-75); Gavin Hafner (Novice-80); Beau Cable and Johnny Felix (Novice-85); Wesstin Wagoner and Arrow Hyde(Novice-100); Gunnar Gannarelli (Middle-75); Tyler Lyscio (Middle-80), Devin Barnes (Middle-90); Mason Elliott (Middle-95); and Brody Black and Aidan Rich (Middle-100).

With considerable coaching help from several of the parents involved and some P-HS high school wrestlers, Danie Uli, Jerry Marjerrison and Shane Angle have been guiding the Plains-Hot Springs Little Guy program this season.
