Ever wanted to try something new? The Clark Fork Valley Elks Lodge #2757 is hosting its second annual Spring Triathlon: Bowling, Trap Shooting and Golf, for area youth in hopes of introducing a new experience or passion in life.
The Elks invites all junior high and high school students (ages 12-18) to take part in the triathlon no matter what their knowledge or skill levels are pertaining to these sports. These three events are available in the local community and are activities that can remain a part of life in years to come.
According to Elks volunteer Sandi Torres, the event is directed at encouraging kids to try something new, but everyone is invited even if they are more experienced in the sport. “Giving back to the community” is what the Elks is all about, Torres said as being the main reason for sponsoring the event.
To start the triathlon off, on March 31, the Rimrock in Thompson Falls will host bowling at 11 a.m. Etiquette, rules and instruction on how to bowl will be taught.
The second event, trap shooting, is scheduled for April 28 at the Thompson Falls Trap Club beginning at 11 a.m. There will be five certified shotgun instructors to relay the rules and etiquette of the shooting sport. Strict protocol will be followed to ensure safety and order are met.
Lastly, in hopes that spring will arrive, River’s Bend Golf Course in Thompson Falls will host youth golfing. This opportunity will give students instruction on rules, politeness and how the sport works overall, and is scheduled to take place on May 12, beginning at 9 a.m.
Participation in all three events is encouraged, but not required. Triathlon participation is free for students, as all fees, equipment, supplies and lunch will be provided by the Elks. To sign up for any events, or for more information, contact the Elks at (406) 827-7770.
