It wasn’t the best weather for a golf tournament, but the Florence/Darby Invitational was played in Hamilton last Tuesday and the Thompson Falls Blue Hawk boys and girls teams were there.
“It was cold and windy but the kids played through it,” coach Mike Bates said. “It wasn’t the best of conditions but that seems to be what we are getting this season.”
Playing through the best for the Hawks, Dylan Beckman and Elsie Brown carded rounds of 82 and 98, respectively, to lead their teammates back to the Hamilton clubhouse.
Beckman finished second overall as the Hawk boys scored 365 and finished second to Loyola, which posted a team score of 341.
Without enough players for a team, the Lady Hawks saw Brown, a senior, finish fifth individually while frosh golfer Megan Baxter shot a 137.
Backing up Beckman, another senior, freshman Kade Pardee shot 90, while Michael Johnson carded 95, Ethan Brown 98 and Kole Stone 104.
In the JV portion of the tournament, Kaden Sparks carded a 93, cousin Roman Sparks a 99 and Nathan Ostwald a 132.
The JV Hawks were also scheduled to play in a junior varsity tournament at Wild Horse Golf Course in Plains Friday but that event was scratched because of yet more inclement weather.
In their only scheduled action this week, the Hawks will travel to Plains for a varsity tournament Saturday. Bates said the Hawks will have a playoff this week to determine which five boy players get to give it a go at Wild Horse.
“The weather has kind of been holding us back so far but it has to break sometime,” he said. “We should have some pretty good competition for our top five spots this week, and for the rest of the season.”
