Project ASCENT, a Thompson Falls non-profit that teaches kids about the outdoors, held a "Camping is In-Tents" fundraiser Saturday, April 14, at the Clark Fork Valley Elks Lodge.
The event featured live and silent auctions, with auctioneer Gene Johnson at the microphone.
Project ASCENT raised $12,500 at the fundraiser. An authentic Cuban dinner was served to attendees, featuring roast pork, rice, beans and plantains. The meal was created by Carlos and Amy Fernandez of Great Falls. Their daughter, Andrea, is a board member of Project ASCENT.
Project ASCENT provides day camps and experiences with board members and other group leaders teaching wilderness, safety and camping skills, along with lessons in kayaking, fly fishing and other activities.
The goal is to advance personal responsibility, character development, health and well-being, civic engagement, leadership development and stewardship through adventure-based experiential education.
