Fab Five golfers shine for Plains

They are Plains' self-proclaimed Fab Five, and they are coming to a golf course near you.

New Plains golf coach Lisa Brown, who jokingly suggests that she is the assistant to her assistant Don Stamm (who once or twice actually head-coached the Plains team in the past), says she loves her new job guiding the Plains program.

Five freshmen – Duncan Chisholm, Nick Gumm and Parker Flock with the boys, and Kaylee Cole and McKenna O'Lexey with the girls – are Brown's Fab Five, and she says they make her excited about the sport she is now coaching.

"I'm loving it," she said. "These kids are very young but very enthusiastic. I have been telling them that golf is a lot of fun, and they seem to be enjoying it almost as much as I am."

Brown said the first-time jitters disappeared as her golfers made the turn on Wild Horse Saturday. "They played much better on the back nine than they did on the front nine," she said. "And it takes playing in a tournament to get that. It takes getting to the tee box and taking your shots when it really counts to make you understand how to get better."

The Horsemen and Trotter golfers got a good taste of tourney play on their home Wild Horse golf course Saturday as Plains hosted their annual high school tournament.

Chisholm led the Plains boys in with a 117, Flock shot a 160 and Gumm 168. Cole paced the Trotters with a 151 and O'Lexey tallied a 177.

Plains golfers return to the tees Saturday for the Thompson Falls Invitational at River's Bend golf course.
