Hawks keep improving

The more they play, the better they get

The continuing improvement process continues with the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks.

Taking baby-bird steps through the first several weeks of the season, coach Jared Koskela says his Lady Hawk softball team is slowly learning to fly on the field of play as the season progresses.

In their only action last week, the Lady Hawks dropped a doubleheader to Eureka in Thompson Falls Saturday, losing the first game 13-3 and the second 12-2 to the visiting Lady Lions.

Koskela found solace in the fact that the Hawks are playing better softball each and every time out.

“We are showing continuing improvement,” he said. “We are getting more comfortable at the plate and getting more baserunners on each game. Now it becomes about learning to run the bases and scoring more runs.”

Haley Morgan hit a double and Kelsey Frank and Faith Frields singles in the first game with Eureka Saturday. Frields pitched the first game and Frank the second.

Freshman Aidin Losure made two nice catches of long Eureka line drives in the games to highlight the Lady Hawks’ defensive efforts.

On the other side of the field, Eureka relied heavily on pitcher Avery Escobar, who went the distance in both games to pick up the wins. On offense, Escobar rapped out a double in each game to help pace Eureka, and Michael Shea smacked a home run for the Lady Lions in the second game.

Although needing more games to continue the improvement process, the Lady Hawks, after playing at Mission Tuesday, April 17, will not have any more games until April 26 when they visit Troy for another doubleheader.
