Carley VonHeeder nails longest Big Sky throw

Carley VonHeeder, a former state high school champion javelin thrower for the Plains Trotters, took over the lead in the Big Sky Conference with a majestic spear throw of 156 feet, 3 inches in the Griz-Cat track and field dual meet held at Dornblaser Field in Missoula Saturday.

A sophomore at Montana State, VonHeeder was named MSU athlete of the week for her lifetime best javelin throw, which travelled over six feet further than she has ever thrown before. In addition to moving her into the Big Sky lead in the event, VonHeeder is now No. 27 among all throwers in the West Region and in the top 50 nationally of all Division I javelin specialists.
