BOW to host Dutch oven class

Are you a Dutch oven enthusiast? Becoming and Outdoors-Woman (BOW) will be hosting a Dutch oven cooking class designed for beginners and masters alike.

Colleen Sloan, a Dutch oven expert and cookbook author, will share recipes, tips, tricks and trades of the cooking method Saturday, June 2 at Thompson Falls State Park, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing most of the day.

Those who attend the event will receive a complementary Dutch oven. Products to help make the heritage-cooking skill successful will be available for purchase.

Prior to Saturday’s event, Sloan will be at Harvest Foods at noon Friday to provide samples cooked in the Dutch oven. She will also have cooking supplies and cookbooks for sale.

Sunday morning anyone interested in cooking with Dutch ovens are invited to attend a potluck at the State Park (this event is not affiliated with BOW). Chefs are asked to bring their own supplies and ingredients to cook at the park and have their “pots on the table” at 11 a.m.

Enthusiasts are hoping the gathering will inspire the formation of a Dutch Oven Gathering (DOG Chapter) group and continue to meet and support each other’s love for outdoor cooking.

Ginger Ward, BOW liaison, requests that anyone who is interested in attending Saturday’s event to register as soon as possible to ensure enough Dutch ovens are available. There is a $60 fee for the course which includes food, instruction, an oven, door prizes and handouts.

Registration can be done online at http://www.fwp.mt.gov/education/bow.
