Least equals the most for Over the Hill gang

The least amount of putts while hitting the greatest number of fairways – it is the dream of every golfer – a formula for links success if there ever was one.

Over the Hill golfers were out there living the dream, or at least taking swings at it, at River’s Bend this past Monday as the friendly gang of golfers played through with a least putts-most fairways format.

Proving to be golden on the greens, Mike Smith, Gary Moe and Doug Deck needed only 13 putts each to complete their trip around the Bend, while Gary Thompson, Charlie Hooten, Sonny Janson, Smith and Moe all hit seven fairways apiece to tie for top honors in that category.

In other Over the Hill play Monday, David Garr shot the low men’s gross of 37, while Dennis Gripp had the low men’s net of 28. Annette Rochelau shot the low ladies’ net of 33.

Garr was closest to the pin in 2 on No. 1 and hit the long men’s drive on No. 9, Mike Gilmore was good with the long putt on No. 2, Deck put in the long putt on No. 3, Bruce Haflich collected long-putt honors on No. 4, Stephanie Anderson was the woman closest to the flag on No. 5 and George Krueger was the man on that hole, Pete Morkert smashed the long 70+ drive on No. 6, Gripp made the long putt on No. 6, Don Hansen rolled in the long putt on No. 7, Bob Conklin knocked the long putt in on No. 8, Rusty Haggard put the longest putt down on No. 9, and Anderson hit the long women’s drive of the day on No. 9.

Moe had the only chip-in of the day on No. 3.

Over the Hill players will, weather permitting, gather up again at River’s Bend next Monday morning for more golfing fun.
