Wayside expands, adds outdoor event venue

Just in time for summer, the Wayside in Trout Creek has added an outdoor venue for music and other events. Steve Anderson, owner of the Wayside, expanded the business recently. Additional seating in the restaurant can accommodate up to 30 more people, and Anderson said it can also be closed off if people want to hold private parties.

Outside, Anderson has added a covered stage, outdoor bar, picnic tables and a fire pit. The new area is contained by a seven-foot-tall fence, making it private.

The new outside venue was christened over the weekend with the after-party for the Cabinet Ridge Riders (CRR) annual cowboy poker run. Boulder Creek Bluegrass Band from Libby played for riders and guests and kept people dancing and entertained.

Anderson encourages people to bring lawn chairs to the new outdoor space, as seating is limited. Sod has been laid, a cornhole set is available for guests to use, and Anderson plans to add a basketball hoop on the concrete dance floor in front of the stage. He said he also hopes to host events such as weddings, receptions, or live plays at the venue. He has plans to add heaters as well, hoping to get as much use out of the area as possible throughout the year.

Prior to building the new outdoor area, Anderson said he would assemble a stage out of two trailers. He's happy with the new covered stage, and with the turnout for last weekend's event.

"Trout Creek is a recreational area, and we needed this for music," Anderson said.

Anderson said he has nine bands lined up to play at the Wayside this summer, and one magician. Next up will be Bryan Lloyd and friends on Saturday, June 23, playing from 7 to 11 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge for Saturday's event.

This was the sixth annual cowboy poker ride for the CRR.
