Festival prepares for sweet competition

If you love pie and have a bit of a competitive side, then the Pie Eating Contest at the Huckleberry Festival in Trout Creek is just what you’re looking for.

Sarah Dramstad commented that “each year there is plenty of audience participation and excitement to get the contestants going.” There are usually different heats for the different age groups depending on how many people have signed up to participate.

The contest will be Saturday, August 11, at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in the event can find a brochure with the complete Huckleberry Festival schedule at most local businesses throughout the county.

What’s new this year is that you can set individual challenges into motion. If you have a score to settle with someone then you can throw down the gauntlet and go head-to-head eating your favorite flavor of pie. The pies are all donated by Harvest Foods and Minnie’s in Thompson Falls, and the Local Store in Trout Creek. Winners will receive prizes and a Certificate of Bragging Rights for the next year. You can register online at http://www.huckleberryfestival.com or call Dramstad at 827-3831.
