Snell earns trip to 4-H Congress

Madeline Snell, of Thompson Falls, earned first place at the 4-H State Congress for Fashion Revue. Snell was the only competitor in the senior age category but that did not mean that she would end up with the win.

“They didn’t have to pick me because I was the only competitor, I’m honored that I was chosen,” Snell said of the competition, which lasted three days on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman.

Fashion Revue is a category where participants must construct an article of clothing and coordinate an outfit to go with it. Snell sewed a pair of jeans for her item and designed an outfit accordingly. The judges rate on a scale that the outfit must fit right, be practical, and the individual must demonstrate the ability to accessorize well. Snell was also interviewed for the completion on what she learned and took away from the experience as part of her evaluation. Snell said that she “had a lot of fun and it was a great experience.”

Securing first place at 4-H State Congress means that Snell will get to go to the 4-H National Congress in November.

“The 4-H National Congress trip is not a competition, rather a reward for the winners of state,” Snell commented.
