Blue Slide Road work to begin this month

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) will present the design plans and construction schedule for the reconstruction of Blue Slide Road at an open house meeting on Thursday, Aug. 9. The public can stop by the open house at the Sanders County Courthouse, 1st Floor Justice Courtroom, anytime between 4 and 6 p.m.

The open house is the public’s opportunity to discuss the project with MDT staff and get questions answered. Construction on the project is anticipated to begin in late August and take 4-6 weeks to complete.

The project will reconstruct a small section of Blue Slide Road 9 miles west of Thompson Falls that was severely damaged earlier this year when heavy spring snowmelt combined with heavy rain caused Cougar Creek to overflow and wash out the gravel beneath the pavement.

In June, phase one of the project to stabilize the road was completed. Long-term improvements will prevent the runoff from affecting the road again.

MDT will notify the community about traffic changes through the media, website and email updates during construction. To sign up for email updates, text BLUESLIDE to 22828, email Brandon Coates as [email protected] or call (406) 465-3350. Coates is with RBCI, a consulting firm working with MDT on the project. He is also available to take questions and comments on the project. Project information and updates can be found at http://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/blueslide.
