The Piranhas took to the water for the divisional swim meet in Choteau the weekend of July 27. The different teams got to participate in a team walk. This walk is done at both divisional and state each year. Each team has their own theme and it changes every year. The athletes all enjoy the dressing up and are very inventive. The Piranhas’ team theme was James Dean.
Board member Kelly Horton said there were 360 swimmers at the divisional meet. Ten Plains swimmers qualified to compete in the state finals in Conrad on Aug. 4-5. She said that the team’s coach, Jack Couch, broke divisional records in the 50-meter fly with a time of 28.75 seconds and in the 100-meter fly at 1:08.70.
Kaylee Cole got 12th place in both the 50 and 100-meter freestyles and 6th place in the 400-meter freestyle and Cree Lulack earned 7th place in the 100-meter freestyle and 4th place in the 50-meter fly for the girls 15-19 age division. Hallie Corbin earned 11th place in the 200-meter IM for the girls 11-12 age division and Alexis Helterline placed 9th in the 50-meter freestyle, 5th in the breaststroke and 8th in the 200-meter freestyle also for the girs 11-12 age group. In the girls 9-10 age division, Ireland Corbin won 12th place in the 50-meter freestyle and 7th place in the 50-meter backstroke. In the 15-19 men’s age division, Jack Couch was able to get 2nd place in the 50-meter freestyle and 1st place in both the 50-meter fly and 100-meter fly. In the girls 13-14 age group Grace Horton was 11th place in the 50-meter freestyle and 8th in the 100-meter breaststroke. Lillian MacDonald earned 12th place for the 50-meter freestyle and 8th place in the 100-meter breaststroke.
There were also group events at the swim meet. The 11-12 age girls 200-meter free relay team achieved 7th place with Hallie Corbin, Alexis Helterline, Karolyna Kundson, and Ireland Corbin. In the 15-19 girls age group the 200-meter free relay team placed 4th and the 200-meter medley relay placed 4th with Cree Lulack, Grace Horton, Kaylee Cole, and Lillian MacDonald.
