Car show to benefit the classics at CFVH

It’s a throwback to the golden oldies, in more ways than one. Clark Fork Valley Hospital’s Long Term Care (LTC) Activities Director is inviting the public to join in the fun at the 3rd Annual Car and Bike Show in Plains, this Saturday. The event is a fundraiser to help bolster the day to day living of the “classic” population living at CFVH. “The money raised all goes to improving their lives here,” said LTC Activities Director Del Smith. “Whether it’s more comfortable furnishings to make it feel like home or for bus rides and outings – it all goes to them.”

Smith recalled the first show and its origins. “We had a resident named Leo who wanted to have a car show as something fun and out of the day to day routine. So we got things lined up and ready for the big day, but Leo passed away before he could witness his request.” Smith and the crew now carry on Leo’s idea that has become tradition.

In addition to hot rods, classics and motorbikes, the event will serve up free burgers with chips and soda (donations gladly accepted). Smith will be on the grill serving up lunch while members of Fire Creek Band provide car show-friendly music. A 50/50 raffle will take place, as well as a chance to meet with some of the most well-seasoned story-telling residents in the county.

Funds from previous car and bike shows have helped the residents purchase a Nu-Step exercise machine, electric blinds for the living area, more comfortable chairs and furnishings, as well as special activities.

“Anything we can do to make life more comfortable with us is the goal,” said Smith, who added the residents always have good ideas on where the money should be spent when there are funds to toss around.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct., from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information or questions, call Del Smith at 826-4979.
