The precocious Hot Springs Lady Savage Heat opened up the 2018 campaign with a pair of District 10C conference wins, knocking off the Sanders County rival Plains Trotters 25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21 in Hot Springs Tuesday and taking St. Regis’s measure 25-14, 25-7, 25-16 in St. Regis Thursday.
Now 2-0 in 10C conference play and overall, the Heat were to have hosted Victor in a non-conference match Tuesday, will visit Noxon for a 10C tilt Thursday and will host Valley Christian in another non-con contest next Tuesday.
Coach Alisha Pablo thinks she knows why the Heat are already playing so well this season in spite of their youthful roster. “This group has been playing varsity together since they were freshmen, they know each other very well and have gotten really good experience together,” she said. “We are excited for the season. They want to do well and are really focused on doing that.”
The youngest of the young, freshman Katelyn Christensen led Hot Springs at the net in the big win over a very tall Plains team, spiking 17 kills and blocking two shots. Sydney Jackson directed the Heat attack with 30 set assists, Sage Jackson had four service aces and Savannah Roosma 14 digs.

Against St. Regis, Roosma had six kills and eight digs, Sydney Jackson 15 assists, Sage Jackson seven aces and Christensen three blocks.
Emma Hill hit nine assists, three aces and eight digs to pace St. Regis, Chloe Cielke hit five kills and Kiya Taylor two blocks.
