Elks share sports knowledge with kids

The first of three activities in the annual Elk's triathlon took place in late September. Eleven Sanders County youngsters enjoyed an afternoon of golf at River's Bend.

The group was split into three groups based on their skill levels and experience with the game. Youth that needed more introduction and instruction were taught by Mike Baxter. He relayed how to hold the iron and proper swing mechanics, which was quickly followed by the youth taking swing at the little white ball, sending it flying out to the range. Baxter then took the young'uns to the putting green for a little instruction of the gentler sort.

While Baxter was driving the range, John Torres instructed the youth with a little more experience on the greens. Torres gave some instruction as his group worked their putting game to perfection.

"It was so interesting to see youth that didn't know each other at the beginning of the event having fun interacting with one another," said Elks member Sandi Torres.

Prizes were awarded to the youth that consisted of golf shirts, umbrellas, sunglasses and a round of golf for two. All youth were awarded a goodie bag.

The next event of the triathlon is trap shooting which will be Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Falls Trap Club shooting range.
