Has anybody seen our old friends Jacob and Rusty?
Two of the mainstays for the Plains Horsemen football only a few weeks ago, Jacob Peterson and Rusty Stuart have been lost for the season, leaving some very large shoes to fill, particularly on defense, for coach Eddie Fultz.
And Fultz really could have used his old friends Jacob and Rusty in the Clark Fork Mountain Cats’ 76-34 win over the Horsemen in Plains Friday.
“Without those two in there, we are really at a disadvantage, especially on defense,” Fultz said. “Clark Fork was able to manhandle us up front some and that led to them getting some pretty good offense going.”
Coach Jeff Shultz’s Mountain Cats did not begin their high-scoring ways against Plains, they merely continued them as they are averaging 62 points scored per game. The week before last the Cats scored an amazing 94 points in a win over Seeley-Swan.
“They have a pretty potent offense, have been scoring pretty well all year,” Fultz offered. “We might have been able to slow them down some earlier, but we are awfully inexperienced at a few positions at this point.”
Now playing for pride and to build up confidence heading into next year, the Horsemen travel to Troy for a rare Thursday night game with the winless Trojans. Fultz is taking nothing for granted heading into Troy.
“Troy has improved a lot this season,” he said, “they have been competitive in many of their games. We will have to play well to win.”
Trey Green and Bryan Mask were the big guns for Clark Fork in the win over Plains as Green ran for six touchdowns and Mask threw for four more.
Treydon Brouillette scored four touchdowns for Plains. Fultz said the Horsemen’s Malachi Paulsen “had a lot of tackles” against Clark Fork and that Brouillette also had a fine game on that side of the ball.
