Baseball player seeks support

Trevor Harris has been a fan of baseball since he can remember and his time with various leagues in the Thompson Falls area did not let him down in his quest to be the best player possible. Now a junior in high school, Harris has earned himself an opportunity to get some training and professional coaching that will lead him further down the path to his goal: a college scholarship playing the game known as “America’s pastime.”

Sports apparel brand, Under Armor, has a baseball factory team and held tryouts this month in Spokane where Harris put on his game face for scouts. Out of the many hopefuls participating, only about 50 would be chosen for the Under Armor Baseball Factory team training events. In less than 48 hours after the tryouts, Trevor’s mom received a call that he had been invited to participate in two of the five events offered. “We were thrilled of course, and happy to see his hard work paying off,” said Courtney Cork, who has always been an avid fan of her son’s sports endeavors. But now a different type of work is on Trevor’s plate as he will need to raise about $5,000 to attend the events, both held in Mesa, AZ.

Since receiving the news, Harris has beat feet to hit businesses and organizations to solicit sponsorships. While some are set up for this type of community support, others require board meetings or regional manager approval so his actual total raised so far is hazy. But Harris would like the public to be aware that he’ll be making the rounds to get the support to represent Thompson Falls in out-of-state baseball events and, hopefully, at the college level.

“He’s hoping to make Thompson Falls real proud in the future,” his mother said, adding that anyone who would like to contribute to Trevor’s opportunity can do so by calling Trevor Harris at 240-2386.
