County warns of election mailings

Sanders County election officials are warning voters about misinformation in mailings. Sanders County Clerk and Recorder Nichol Scribner said that information in a recent pamphlet mailed by the Republican National Committee (RNC) was incorrect. The RNC pamphlet reported that ballots needed to be returned by Monday, Nov. 5 at noon. However, Scribner clarified that ballots, including absentee, can be submitted until 8 p.m. on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 6). The pamphlet also states that ballots “received by the board of elections no later than 10 days after the election” will be counted. Scribner said that statement is false.

Scribner said that election administrators across the state have been fielding questions about mailings. If in doubt, Scribner said voters should call the Sanders County elections office at 827-6949. She noted that any mail from the elections office will have “official election mail” on the outside of the envelope.

Sanders County polling locations will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 6. Ballots can also be submitted until 8 p.m. that day at the Sanders County Courthouse.

“We want to make it convenient for voters and make sure they have the right information,” Scribner said. She urged voters to call if they have any questions.

Sanders County mailed 4,622 ballots. Of those, 1,687 (more than one-third) had been submitted by voters as of Tuesday.
