“This type of event is appropriate and necessary, and I’m happy to hear we aren’t the only school doing something like this,” said Thompson Falls elementary principal Len Dorscher. His comment is in reference to the Falls District’s Veterans Day luncheon scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m.
Dorscher made a point in his first year at the school to make a big deal about Veterans Day and how students experience the holiday, as well as their participation.
“We are getting more organized about it as a district, so we’ll be swapping years with the high school,” said Dorscher. “We are also getting away from an ‘assembly’ format this year and focus on students and vets getting to know one another.”
Veterans will be seated amongst youth to encourage conversation and a closing of the generation gap. Student council members from the elementary and junior high schools will be serving the chicken fried steak lunch on plates, rather than cafeteria trays.
Area veterans are encouraged to attend and asked to RSVP to 827-3593 by Wednesday, Nov. 7.
