The final numbers are in, and we are not talking about a recount in a disputed election.
The Hot Springs Savage Heat recently completed another outstanding season of 6-man football, and the raw numbers, the statistics accumulated from the campaign, help demonstrate the reasons why the Heat were so successful during their 9-2 season.
Beginning with the offense, senior Tyler Knudsen keyed the Heat's punishing ground attack with 780 yards on 102 carries, an average of 7.6 yards per rushing attempt. Luke Waterbury added 482 yards on 70 carries (for 6.9 yards per carry), Kyle Lawson 281 yards on 38 carries (7.4 yards per attempt), Jack McAllister 177 yards on 21 carries (8.4 yards per carry) and Brandon Knudsen 139 yards on 37 carries from his quarterback position. Tyler Carr added 113 yards rushing on 24 carries.
Waterbury wound up with 18 touchdowns rushing, Tyler Knudsen finished with 16, Lawson scored eight, McAllister and Carr three each and Brandon Knudsen two. Jesse Uski and Nick Costa scored one rushing touchdown apiece for the Savage Heat.
Brandon Knudsen completed 72 of 122 passing attempts for 1,101 yards and 23 touchdowns and McAllister connected on 15 of 17 attempts for 161 yards and another touchdown.
Carr led the Heat in receiving with 34 catches for 481 yards and nine touchdowns, Tyler Knudsen had 25 receptions for 406 yards and six touchdowns, Lawson had 11 catches for 142 yards and four touchdowns, and Bert DeTienne three catches for 64 yards with all three of those going for touchdowns.
Waterbury and McAllister had one touchdown catch apiece.
On the defensive side of things, Carr led the Heat with 8.8 tackles per game, Brandon Knudsen averaged 8.0 per outing, Tyler Knudsen 6.7, Waterbury 6.3, McAllister 6.2, Lawson 4.4, DeTienne .9 and Costa .8.
